Characteristics

Leonbergers are famous for their distinctive black mask and large muscular body. They are a mountain dog and are surprisingly agile for their size.

They have a water resistant double coat which, is not only their defining attribute, but also a necessity for their work.

When will socialised and trained, the Leonberger is robust, loyal, intelligent, playful and kind.

They make excellent family dogs.

Weight;

  • Males average between 54 – 77kg (120 – 170lb)
  • Females average between 45 – 61kg (140 – 150lb)

Height;

  • Males average 71 – 80cm (28 – 31in) to withers
  • Females average 65 – 75cm (26 – 30in) to withers
